Austin Vick (above, right) and Conner Phelps of Eastmont Baptist Church, Montgomery, in Montgomery Baptist Association were two of 117 Royal Ambassadors (RA) who participated in the RA Soapbox Derby on Oct. 17 in front of the state capitol in Montgomery. The derby, an annual event, was held as part of National RA week. The RAs, ranging from first grade to junior high school students, represented 18 Alabama Baptist churches.
“It was kind of cool weather, but it turned out great — the crowd was really into it and had a great time,” said Steve Stephens, an associate in the office of global missions for the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions. For the third year in a row, Wadsworth Baptist Church, Deatsville, in Autauga Baptist Association won the Best of Race award for “having the most fun and being the most enthusiastic,” he said.
