Soapbox cars hit capital’s streets

As Wes Star of Pepperell Baptist Church, Opelika, crosses the finish line of the annual Royal Ambassador (RA) Soapbox Derby, he is flagged down by Noah Walker (left) and timed by Gavin Lee, both of whom came to the race with White Springs Baptist Church, Rainbow City.

Eighty-nine drivers converged on Montgomery Oct. 21 with 31 cars to compete in the derby’s LAD, Crusader and Challenger divisions.

Verbena Baptist Church won Best of Race for the church group that had the most fun. Ino Baptist Church, Kinston, won for the best-looking car and Eastern Hills Baptist Church, Montgomery, won for the fastest car. (TAB)
