With his new Social Security plan, Alabama’s seniors can hold onto their checks — and the faith those checks won’t be taken away, said President Bush at a town hall meeting in Montgomery March 10.
“I don’t care what the TV ads say. I don’t care what the pamphlets say. If you’ve retired or are near retirement, the government will pay you what we’ve said we’ll pay you,” Bush told the crowd of more than 4,000 at Auburn University Montgomery.
Bush said his plan will call for a major overhaul of the Social Security system to save younger workers (those born after 1949) from a soon-coming lack of funds.
