America’s youth are working toward a goal of raising $10 million for hunger and poverty-related charities across the nation with the 2008 Souper Bowl of Caring Feb. 3.
During the Souper Bowl of Caring, youth hold soup pots at the doors of the church, asking worshipers to drop in a dollar for the hungry.
Each group then donates its collection directly to the charity of its choice — no money is sent to Souper Bowl of Caring headquarters.
Organizers simply ask that groups report their collection amount so a national total can be determined.
In 2007, 720 Southern Baptist groups participated, collecting more than $350,000 for charities. Eighteen Alabama Baptist churches donated $9,000 to organizations that fight hunger. In total, more than 14,000 youth organizations generated more than $8 million for charities across the country.
