Southcrest Baptist Church, Bessemer, on mission

Members of Southcrest Baptist Church, Bessemer, in Bessemer Baptist Association have been busy all summer long with missions trips. A group of 31 youth and adults traveled around the United States on a choir tour turned missions project June 2–7.

The team sang at four homeless rescue missions and had the chance to help feed and interact with the people there. Kevin Allred, the youth choir director, said several decisions were made for Christ during the performances.

Three college students from Southcrest Baptist went to Hawaii June 9–17 with Joshua Expeditions, a nonprofit Christian organization that sponsors short-term missions and travel experiences for students, to help lead a camp for around 35 Polynesian children ages 5–12.

The students helped lead worship, craft and recreation time and camped with the children, many of whom were homeless. And they saw decisions made at the camp. “I led two little girls to Christ,” said Southcrest member Elizabeth Fuller.

A group of 12 high school and college students, along with eight adults from Southcrest, partnered with Servant Life, a ministry of Student Life that offers students short-term missions experiences in seven countries, to help run a Christian camp in Ecuador July 11–19. The team did yard work and construction, assisted in preparing meals for around 200 people at the camp and helped lead recreation and craft times.
