Spring Hill Baptist Church enjoys 175 years

Spring Hill Baptist Church, Sipsey Association, celebrated its 175 anniversary on its homecoming day, May 26.

”It was a day that the Lord ordained and blessed,” Pastor William L. Sudduth said. “I thank the Lord for it.”

According to estimates approximately 200 people attended the homecoming event, which lasted until 3 p.m. Sudduth preached during the service, then attendees had lunch on the grounds.

Afternoon singing was led by Faithful Hearts.

During the service, Frances Hamilton, executive director of the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission, which is housed at Samford University, presented the church with a framed plaque commemorating the church’s anniversary.

The church is also working on erecting a historical marker on the grounds.

”People from all around (came) back to Spring Hill,” Sudduth said. “That’s what makes Baptists strong. Our own hearts hold us together.”
