State Convention highlights from Wednesday, November 16, 2005

Henry Cox, pastor of First Baptist Church, Bay Minette, was unanimously elected for a second term as president of the Alabama Baptist State Convention during the convention’s annual meeting Nov. 16. “His leadership has been proved over the last five years through his service to our great convention,” said son Tim Cox, pastor of Liberty Baptist Church, Chelsea, who nominated his father for re-election. “He is the portrait of the very best of who we are as Alabama Baptists.” Henry Cox told the messengers that he never dreamed he would stand before them as convention president but that he was thankful and blessed to be a part of the fellowship in such a great way. “I will continue to do my best to represent Christ, His body and Alabama Baptists,” he said. Roger Willmore, pastor of Deerfoot Baptist Church, Trussville, was also unanimously re-elected for a second term as first vice president. Jimmy Jackson, pastor of host church Whitesburg Baptist, Huntsville, was unanimously elected as second vice president. Other officers elected are: Mary Sue Bennett, recording secretary; Bobby DuBois, statistical secretary; and Billy Austin, registration secretary. (TAB)
