Alabama legislators in both the House and Senate passed bills calling for a statewide referendum banning same-sex “marriage.” Each bill- House Bill (HB) 59 and Senate Bill (SB) 109- are now worded exactly the same, following work on the Senate version of the bill.
While HB 59 was in the judiciary committee of the Senate at press time, SB 109 was on the House calendar for Feb. 22.
Whether the final legislation will pass out of the House or the Senate first, no one knows for sure. But Dan Ireland, executive director of Alabama Citizens Action Program, feels certain a vote about banning same-sex “marriage” will happen.
