Pittsburgh was the site of a summer missions trip for 12 — six adults and six youth — from Crawford Road Baptist Church, Phenix City. The group partnered with area church plants in outreach efforts. As a result of the trip, one Crawford Road Baptist participant made a decision of rededication and three of the youth felt a call to ministry.
This summer, a team of 25 from Liberty Park Baptist Church, Vestavia Hills, traveled to Damascus, Va., to participate in the annual Trail Days event, which draws about 10,000 hikers and other Appalachian Trail enthusiasts to the area. The team included doctors, nurses and others who did everything from hand out food to man a mobile shower unit supplied by Southern Baptist disaster relief. More than 300 hikers visited the clinic, and the team saw a number of hikers pray to receive Christ.
From Sept. 9–23, Charles and Carma Pinkerton of First Baptist Church, Dothan, were part of a team ministering in Choluteca, Honduras. The first week, Charles Pinkerton taught pastors and preached in the evenings at several churches, and Carma Pinkerton sorted medications in preparation for upcoming medical clinics. The team saw more than 1,200 first-time professions of faith.
MeadowBrook Baptist Church, Gadsden, sent a missions team to New York Sept. 30–Oct. 6. They served at a mobile soup kitchen and led worship for patients at Terrence Cardinal Cooke Hospital. MeadowBrook Baptist also sponsored two trips to the Dominican Republic, a family mission Oct. 14–19 and a senior adult mission Oct. 31–Nov. 5.
St. Clair Baptist Association sent a team to West Virginia for a missions fest Sept. 17–24. They worked with churches doing landscaping, construction and prayer walking, among other activities.
Brookwood Baptist Church, Birmingham, had several members of its “young marrieds” Sunday School class travel to Guatemala Oct. 1–8 to minister to residents of the San Gabriel Boys’ Home. Coordinated by Buckner Orphan Care International, the team conducted Vacation Bible School in the mornings and worked on other projects around the orphanage in the afternoon. They taught the boys life development skills to prepare them for life after they leave the orphanage at age 18. They also worked on small construction and video projects. A team from Brookwood Baptist is also ministering in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Oct. 28–Nov. 6.
Hueytown Baptist Church, Hueytown, sent a team of 12 to Puebla, Mexico, Oct. 2–8. The team worked on a house that missionaries Donny and Jennifier Barger and their three children moved into recently. They painted, repaired plumbing and electrical outlets, worked outdoors and helped with an addition to the home. This was the first missions trip for most of the team members.
A team from First Baptist Church, Sylacauga, traveled to the Dominican Republic on mission Oct. 3–7.
Czech Republic is the site of a missions trip for 14 members of First Baptist Church, Montgomery, Oct. 28–Nov. 6. The team’s activities include prayer walking in several cities, visiting orphanages, working in schools and helping in a refugee camp, among other things.
