Sterrett WMU group finds ways to help needy

The Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU) at Beulah Baptist Church, Sterrett, in Shelby Baptist Association is actively pursuing opportunities to help those less fortunate. During July, the WMU hosted its annual shoe drive in partnership with Soles4Souls, a nonprofit organization that gathers shoe donations from companies, retailers, individuals and churches for distribution to the hurting across the world. The church, which is led by Pastor Earl Hardy, kicked off the drive with Barefoot Sunday, a service in which members of the congregation left their shoes at the altar for people in need. A total of 820 pairs of shoes were collected.

In the spring, the WMU joined in the Ghana Bandage Project of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Cartersville, Ga., to roll 500 bandages for the Baptist Medical Centre in Nalerigu, Ghana. The women used both new and old bedsheets to help wrap enough 3-and-a-half-inch bandages to fill 160 barrels, which were then shipped to the West African country for use in the centre.
