Robert Stone has been a believer for 55 years and an active deacon for 25 years. In 2000, Stone and his wife joined Gallion Baptist Church in Hale Baptist Association where he serves as outreach leader and visits church guests and community residents weekly. Gallion pastor Tim Davis calls Stone a committed, godly man.

Q: What led you to do outreach ministry?
A: I retired, and I have plenty of time. I just felt it was what I wanted to do. I love to witness and talk to people.
Q: Why have you done it?
A: God gave us the Great Commission to go and we are supposed to go. … In football or basketball, you have some people who are substitutes, and they don’t play. As Christians, God called all of us to be in the game. There aren’t supposed to be any substitutes. Everybody is a part of the team.

Q: What does it require?
A: The secret to ministry is prayer. If we go out and try to do it on our own, nothing is going to happen if we don’t pray.

Q: What do you get from it?
A: The joy of knowing I’m doing what God wants me to do. When someone comes to the Lord, that is a great feeling. It makes your heart feel likes it’s going to explode.

Q: How do you see yourself involved in this in the future?
A: I plan on trying to visit families more. If someone has a need, I plan on being there more for them than I have in the past.

Q: What difference will it make for you in the future?
A: It would make me feel closer to the Lord.
