Members of the Ladies Book Club hosted by Toxey Baptist Church in Choctaw County have made their way through more than 40 books since they started reading together in September 2021. The group of four to six alternate among a variety of area locations.
While discussing a specific book each month is the initial goal, this group of avid book readers says it’s the fellowship time and opportunity to share how God is working in their lives that keeps them coming back.

The group is made up of a diverse group of people from various Christian backgrounds and churches, said Kristy Chapman, book club coordinator and member of Toxey Baptist.
“It’s open to anyone, whether or not you come to (our) church,” she said, noting the books are typically Christian fiction.
Unifying time
Karen Kingsbury, Francine Rivers, Becky Wade and Frank Peretti are a few of their favorite authors to read.
Book club participant Beth Clark, a member of Needham Assembly of God, described the time together as unifying.
“My favorite part of book club is the Christian fellowship and how we not only share the stories in the book but also the stories of our lives,” she said. “We share how God is working, and we encourage one another.
“Christian fellowship is good for the soul. It is a time to laugh with each other and encourage one another.”
