Super Bowl outreach gearing up in Houston

HOUSTON — An anticipated 200,000 football fans will converge on Houston in the days prior to Super Bowl XXXVIII, and Super Bowl Evangelism Project (SBEP) volunteers will be there to greet them with the gospel message. That message will be presented in “overt” and “covert” ways, said SBEP director David Fannin, pastor of Nassau Bay Baptist Church.

Some volunteers will be working in NFL and Super Bowl-sponsored venues. Although not able to use those forums for an open presentation of the gospel to visitors, Fannin said SBEP volunteers can “put a good face on” their Christian faith and, maybe, find opportunities to share that faith with coworkers when appropriate.

SBEP coordinators sponsored workshops to equip the 2,000–3,000 volunteers, with the last two workshops on Jan. 17.

The workshops were by North American Mission Board (NAMB) and Southern Baptist of Texas Convention. SBEP can boost volunteers for The Evangelism Response Center, a ministry of NAMB, by helping people find answers to questions about faith in Jesus.
