Because of a joint service that commemorated its 75th anniversary and celebrated its annual homecoming, members and visitors of Mount Vernon Baptist Church, Sylacauga, will remember Sept. 10 as a “wonderful day with beautiful music,” according to Mary Staggs.
The “beautiful music” was supplied by the male chorus of Hopewell Baptist Church, Wellington. Edward Pickett, pastor of Hopewell Baptist, and Randy Roberson, pastor of Mount Vernon Baptist, each shared a few words during the 11 a.m. service. A presentation also was made by Staggs, who serves as a representative for the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission.
Special displays were set up for participants to view and included old photos of former pastors and church activities, as well as old Sunday School and Training Union attendance books from years past. Mount Vernon is in Coosa River Baptist Association.
