TAB, communications ministry partners win big during national awards season

For the 23rd consecutive year The Alabama Baptist (TAB) has been named among the top regional Christian newspapers in the nation. 

TAB also earned a variety of other awards for writing, the TAB News podcast and social media engagement, which will all be featured in the coming weeks. 

Other Alabama Baptist entities and communications ministry partners also won big during this year’s award season. 

Staff members of the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions earned five awards from Baptist Communicators Association (BCA):

“Faryn Fryer” by Doug Rogers — first place, script

“After the Storm” by Doug Rogers — third place, photography, news, single

“Hope from Despair” by Doug Rogers — third place, photography, news, series 

Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions Identity System by Jesse Conte — first place, redesign 

“Congratulations Rick Lance” by Jesse Conte — first place, print ad 

“Praying Alabama” by Brian Harris — third place, social media campaign or event

“PursueAL.org” by Brian Harris — first place, event or promotion website, adapted template

“Speak.YMLink.org” by Brian Harris — second place, event or promotion website, adapted template

Samford University won three awards from BCA and two from Religion Communicators Council (RCC):

“Disaster simulation” by College of Health Sciences — second place, video, feature, 2–5 minutes (BCA)

Annual report, 2018 by Division of Marketing and Communication — third place, video, promotion (BCA)

“DuckTales: Devlin Hodges’ Quest to win the Walter Payton award” by Division of Marketing and Communication — first place, video, other (BCA)

School of the Arts event brochure by Division of Marketing and Communication — award of excellence, special print material (RCC)

Samford University Beeson Magazine by Division of Marketing and Communication — award of excellence and best in class, special issue publication (RCC)

TAB’s podcast producer and ministry partner Square Core Media also brought home an award of excellence for “Homebrewed CultureCast” by Christian Piatt from Associated Church Press.

In related news, Doug Rogers, director of communications and technology services for the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions, is the new president-elect of Baptist Communicators Association. (TAB)
