It will be lights, camera, action for the state Baptist newspaper as staff members launch their new TAB Talks broadcast segment at the upcoming state convention annual meeting.
Bob Terry, editor of The Alabama Baptist (TAB), will serve as host and topics will range from social issues to ministry matters to personal development.
The live interviews will take place before and after every session of the annual meeting to be held at Eastern Shore Baptist Church, Daphne, on Nov. 17–18. The only exception is following the final session Wednesday afternoon. There will be no broadcast segment after adjournment of the annual meeting.
However, more TAB Talks will follow in 2016 at various events throughout the year.
During the TAB Talks at the state convention, segments will be broadcast live from the exhibit area next to TAB’s booth.
The first interview will take place Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 8:10 a.m. with Traylor Lovvorn of Undone Redone.
Lovvorn will talk about creating a culture of authentic community rather than inadvertently creating a culture of silence where everyone is trying to convince each other that they have it all together, especially as related to sexual brokenness issues.
Following the Tuesday morning session at 12:10 p.m., Michael Wilson, director of the Center for Congregational Resources (CCR) at Samford University in Birmingham, will talk about resources available through CCR.
Variety of topics
At 1:10 p.m. on Tuesday, prior to the opening of the afternoon session, Rondie Wilks, of NorthPark Baptist Church, Trussville, will share about living a life of discipleship and describe how her husband, Bill Wilks, is taking NorthPark Baptist to a new level of discipleship through his pastorate and D-Life emphasis.
Following the Tuesday afternoon session at 4:40 p.m., Joe Godfrey, executive director of Alabama Citizens Action Program, will focus on the seriousness of the governor’s recent decision to remove top-level enforcement of gambling laws in the state (see story, page 1).
Prior to the evening session, Ronnie Floyd, president of the Southern Baptist Convention, will share about issues related to the denomination at 6:20 p.m.
Godfrey will be back following the evening session, around 9 p.m., to discuss how churches can prepare themselves for potential issues related to same-sex relationships.
And at 8:10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, Kevin Blackwell, assistant to the president of Samford for church relations, will outline the new youth ministry certificate program offered through the Ministry Training Institute, of which he is executive director.
