TAB’s new website almost ready

The staff members of The Alabama Baptist (TAB) are excited about the coming release of the paper’s new website.

“We are really close now,” said TAB editor-elect Jennifer Davis Rash. “It has certainly been a labor of love this past year and a half,” she said, noting the enormity of the task of migrating more than 35,000 articles from the current site.

Paul Brandon, principal of Vehicle Media, the new web designer of thealabamabaptist.org, said, “It’s a much more fresh and updated feel.

“It’s got neat features in terms of navigating around, so it’s easier to read and digest and get to the things you want to read. It’s a more tightly knit user experience.”

And it’s much simpler to access from handheld devices, he said. Social media sharing also is much easier and more intuitive on the new site, Brandon said.

In addition to more opportunities, readers will have more opportunities to post their own content on the newspaper’s website.

Instant coverage

Rash said, “Subscribers will now be able to submit news and feature items to us as they are happening. All they will need is a smart phone to take a photo or short video clip, upload the file and fill in the content information.”

All appropriate submissions will be posted on the homepage within 24 hours, she said.

“It can then be shared with others online, and that submission also will be passed along to the editorial staff for consideration in the print edition,” Rash said.

It’s all part of building each other up as Christians, she said.

“We believe the ability to connect quickly, directly and comprehensively within that community will help all of us be more efficient and effective in the ultimate goal we all have — loving God, getting to know Him better and sharing Him with others,” Rash said. (TAB)
