James Smith has retired as director of missions for Tallapoosa Baptist Association, effective Dec. 31 but is continuing in the role temporarily as interim.
A native of Huntsville, Smith was called into ministry in 1974 and has served as a youth minister, pastor, international missionary, church planting catalyst and hospice chaplain. He received his bachelor’s degree from Samford University and his master’s from Southeastern Seminary. Smith and his wife, Jerilyn, served Tallapoosa Association for 10 years.
Jerilyn, a graduate of Baylor University, also wrapped up her role as the association’s ministry assistant, clerk and treasurer Dec. 31. The Smiths have two adult children and four grandchildren. They plan to move to West Virginia.
