Tate, Lee

Tate, Lee

Before accepting the pastorate at Uniontown, Lee Tate served as associate pastor, then interim pastor of First Baptist Church, Selma, where he kept programs going and encouraged members. He is also active in missions work.

Q: What led you into the ministry?

A: It was the Lord. Ministry was kind of my mid-life crisis. We knew we were called to seminary, but we didn’t know to what after that.

Q: What led you to become associate pastor at First, Selma?

A: It is my home church. My mother is a member there. I’ve spent three-fourths of my life there. It was a pleasure to be on staff there for three and a half years.

Q: What does the ministry demand?

A: It requires flexibility to God’s plan and perseverance. It requires putting Christ first through others. That’s not a burden, it’s a blessing.

Q: What do you get from the ministry?

A: It has been a wonderful time. I know that I’m doing what God wants me to do and there’s nothing better than that.

Q: How do other family members support you?

A: My wife is very insightful. She really helps me know when I’m on course and when I’m off course. Our three boys are encouragers, too. I don’t know how long I could do it if it weren’t for them pumping me up. I need them.

Q: How do you see yourself involved in this in the future?

A: It’s prepared me to do what God has called me to do next.
