Taylor, Billy Sunday

Billy Sunday Taylor, pastor of Rockwood Baptist Church, Russellville, died March 13 at age 75.

Taylor had served as pastor of Rockwood for 32 years, holding one of the top records for longest pastorates in Franklin Baptist Association.

Ordained as a pastor by Bear Creek #1 Baptist Church in Bear Creek, Taylor also worked 41 years as a draftsman. His work is well known in the industry and includes churches across the state and a few buildings at Samford University.

Taylor also held every position available at the associational level and designed the Franklin Association camp, Camp McMurray. He served as camp director for 25 years.

Taylor graduated from Samford University’s Howard College Extension Program. In 1999 he was selected by Samford as an Alabama Baptist minister of the year.

Taylor is survived by his wife, Algie; two children and four grandchildren. His son, Sammy, is pastor of Mountain View Baptist Church, Phil Campbell.
