Team Impact presents gospel to Pickens County

Large men with large muscles smashing through large stacks of concrete blocks do not constitute a typical evangelistic outreach event, but that is exactly what Pickens Baptist Association organized Aug. 13–17 in Carrollton. As a result, nearly 100 people made professions of faith and almost 40 more made decisions of rededication.

“I knew within the first 10 to 15 minutes that it was going to be different,” said Charlie Wilson, pastor of First Baptist Church, Aliceville. In fact, this crusade was a pivotal moment in his family’s life as his 6-year-old son Charlie Pierce Wilson made his own profession of faith.

The five-day event focused on the ministry of Team Impact, an evangelism outreach organization that tours the country coupling feats of strength with the message of the gospel. About 5,000 people attended the Pickens County event.

In addition to nightly performances, Team Impact members Jeff Neal, Richard Williams and Kevin Dowd visited area schools during the week to speak at assemblies and preached in four churches that Sunday.

“The guys on the team were really terrific and did a splendid job of presenting the gospel in a clear, down-to-earth kind of way,” said Gary Farley, director of missions for Pickens Association. He hopes to organize a similar event again in a few years to reach another generation of children and youth.
