Seven Alabama Baptist disaster relief teams have been deployed to Tennessee since devastating floods swept parts of the state the weekend of May 2.
The teams, which specialize in mud out, have joined with teams from Georgia, Indiana and North Carolina and are working in Brentwood, Jackson, Linden, Madison and Nashville.
“Devastation is widespread … much more extensive than the initial assessments,” said Mel Johnson, disaster relief strategist for Alabama. “Many of these teams were some of the same who responded to (the tornado damage in) Marshall, DeKalb and Walker counties. My hat’s off to them.”
While attention has turned to Tennessee, two disaster relief teams are still on the ground in Albertville continuing with cleanup following tornadoes April 24.
At press time, Johnson reported that the disaster relief teams had completed 96 jobs, made 157 ministry contacts, recorded 12 faith decisions and reported 350 volunteers from the work done in Marshall, DeKalb and Walker counties. (TAB)
