In the face of an economic downturn, The Alabama Baptist offers a clear benefit to churches’ budgets, said Bob Terry, editor of the state Baptist paper.
“Many of our churches do a newsletter, but few have done an analysis of what it takes to produce a newsletter,” Terry told messengers during his report to the state convention annual meeting in Montgomery Nov. 19.
When churches factor in time, money and manpower, newsletters are “an expensive product,” he said.
But a local edition of the state Baptist paper saves money — it’s cheaper than producing one’s own newsletter, and there’s no printing involved. It also saves time — “We handle all the delivery and headaches,” Terry said. “Saving time translates into saving money, and that is good stewardship.”
And in addition, church members get access to state and national Baptist news, including stories about missions work, he noted.
“Studies have found that churches that provide the state Baptist paper give more to missions than churches that do not.”
The Alabama Baptist also provides ministry tools, stories of faithful Christians across the state and promotion of convention work.
“It is a weekly reminder of what God is doing through Baptists in our state and around the world,” Terry said. “And it’s also another way of addressing the issue of tight budgets.”
