I read with interest your story in the Jan. 7 edition of The Alabama Baptist titled “Suggestions from Readers About GCR.” Could I please make one correction to your story?
In points No. 4 and 5, readers suggested that Cooperative Program (CP) monies be given to Samford University’s Beeson Divinity School (BDS). Mr. Beeson gave Samford the money for the divinity school with at least one condition, that being the school must be an ecumenical seminary.
BDS has professors of other denominations … teaching there; we don’t at Southern Baptist Convention seminaries. Samford’s BDS is not distinctively Baptist and so would not qualify for CP funds. Many Alabama Baptists don’t know this.
