The Perrys

Almost Morning
Daywind Records

There’s a reason The Perrys have garnered fan-favorite awards for consecutive years: They know what their fans expect and they deliver. Let’s look at their checklist.

Powerful group vocals? Check. Four-part harmony abounds on the old convention standard “I Love to Tell of His Love” and Kyla Rowland’s “This Old Sinner Testifies.”

Powerful individual vocal performances? Check. Libbi Stuffle is the signature vocal for the group. She does her usual stellar job on Rodney Griffin’s composition of “The One Who Is Unworthy” and “Did I Mention,” written by Rowland. Both are hits.

New group member Troy Peach shares lead vocals with Stuffle on a couple of tunes — “An Old Fashioned Altar” (written by The Perrys’ producer Wayne Haun and Joel Lindsey) and Kyla Rowland’s “Prior to a Prayer.” Both are hits. Peach fits The Perrys’ sound well.

Joseph Habadank assumes most of the lead vocals and solos. I simply can’t say enough about this young man’s singing, as well as his writing abilities. He turns southern-gospel crooner on the Rowland song “You Cannot Improve on the Truth.” He continues his Mr. Smooth performance on the title track “Almost Morning,” written by Habadank and Matthew Holt, who also teamed up to write the clever, up-tempo “Dying Is a Day.”

For “If You Knew Him,” which, in my humble opinion, is a smash hit, bass vocalist Tracy Stuffle was given a little more mic time than normal, which was a pleasant surprise. He’s never sounded better.

Powerful songs? Check.

Top-notch productions and arrangements? Check.

The most important ingredient on their checklist is the Holy Spirit. Check.

In summary, we’ve got great singing, great songs, great production, great arrangements and a few pleasant surprises. Yet another chart-topping, award-winning performance by The Perrys. Check.
