Life Goes On
Horizon/Crossroads
The Talley Trio sought advice at each step from their Internet friends while making “Life Goes On.”
“Realms of Glory Bright” is set over a dynamic Jason Webb orchestration. “I’ve Never Been Loved Like You” relies on an incomplete thought, but listeners should comprehend the intent. With its similarity to “Searchin’” and “Testify,” “Winds of the World” reminds fans of why they were initially impressed by Lauren’s singing skills.
“Thanks to Calvary and Amazing Grace” begins softly, steps through a couple of key changes and builds to big finish. “I Will Sing of My Redeemer” is a Tony Wood/Chad Cates/Todd Smith song that adds an a cappella verse from Fanny Crosby’s classic hymn “Redeemed.” The hymn also resurfaces for the bridge. Roger’s sole feature on “Life Goes On” is “My Hope Is in the Lord.” The first verse focuses on the plight of Job. The second describes a man receiving bad news from his doctor. Debra is featured next on “Comfort Me,” a song that extends the same message from a more personal perspective. Debra Talley fans are going to love it.
“Jesus You Are” has an infectious energy and strong potential for radio. The lyrical hook sticks in your head. By popular demand, the classic Talleys’ hit “Hallelujah, Praise the Lamb” is revisited next. This anthem follows the same arrangement formula as “Thanks to Calvary and Amazing Grace.” The CD concludes with a Marty Funderburk/Gina Boe song that surprises us with a few unexpected chord progressions. “Life Goes On” ends in the same key that “Realms of Glory Bright” begins. The similar style produces a sense of coming full circle.
2007’s “Stages” explored a range of musical territory. “Life Goes On” is more rooted in proven ground, casting the aura of a greatest hits collection even though it isn’t.
