Birmingham native and former Alabama pastor Joseph Coleman Thompson Sr. died Dec. 1, 2014. He was 88.
Thompson received his education from Howard College (now Samford University) in Birmingham and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, and served in the U.S. Army in 1949.
In Alabama, Thompson served churches in Sylacauga, Albertville and Birmingham. He also served as pastor of First Baptist Church, Tallahassee, Fla, and in Missouri.
Thompson is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elizabeth, and one son.
