When membership numbers at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Bermuda Baptist Church and Repton Baptist Church, all in Conecuh Baptist Association, began to dwindle about a decade ago, the churches decided to begin a new tradition.
Each quarter, members of all three churches meet at one of the three buildings to have an event focused on missions.
“The program is to enlighten the churches about missions efforts, and we get together with a missionary, and we have a media presentation or something,” said Dean Matthews, pastor of Bermuda Baptist for about 15 years.
Edward Robinson, pastor of Oak Grove Baptist since July, has heard only wonderful things about this event from his congregation. He has not yet been able to attend an event because of illness but knows it is a great fit for his church based on its goals and values.
“The church where I’m pastoring has a real heart for the gospel and for missions, both local and international,” he said.
Matthews said the event has become something that members of all three churches look forward to. In addition to the missions program, the event includes a time of fellowship so members of different churches have a chance to get to know each other better.
“My hope is that, thanks to the success of this event, we can branch out and maybe have joint revivals, community revivals and VBS (Vacation Bible School),” Matthews said.
