An associate with the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions (SBOM) was recently appointed as a church planter by the North American Mission Board.

Otis H. Corbitt III and his wife, Geri, were appointed to serve as church planters in the Montgomery area.

Corbitt began working in this capacity with SBOM in October 2005, as an associate in the office of associational missions and church planting.

Until that time, he had served as director of missions for Salem-Troy Baptist Association.

Corbitt — who calls both Phenix City and Columbus, Ga., his hometown – earned his bachelor’s degree from Columbus State University in Georgia and master of divinity degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He also attended Auburn University.

Geri Corbitt, also an Alabama native, earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Columbus State and a master’s degree in education from Auburn. The Corbitts, who reside in Troy, have two children, Otis and Devon.

William J. “James” McCray has been appointed to Canada to serve as  church-planting missionary pastor in Fort Rae-Edzo, Northwest Territories.

A native of Slocomb, McCray attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., and earned a bachelor’s degree in missions.

McCray also served as a submarine sonar technician in the U.S. Navy for five years. (NAMB)
