Barry Bledsoe, president of the Baptist Foundation of Alabama, began his first report to the Alabama Baptist State Convention with a recognition of the work done by his predecessor.
Bledsoe said Warren Trussell, who attended the Nov. 13-14 annual meeting, “led the Foundation through a period of great growth.”
“He set some really outstanding standards in place,” Bledsoe said. “We appreciate all of your efforts.”
In his report, Bledsoe said the Foundation distributed $8.2 million during the last fiscal year that ended June 20. He said “a good portion” went to individuals who are beneficiaries.
But he predicted much of that will remain with Alabama Baptist causes as designated by the beneficiaries upon their deaths.
During the past year, he said more than $550,000 went to the Cooperative Program, approximately $800,000 to the Children’s Homes and Family Ministries and almost $800,000 to scholarship funds.
“What we want to do is to be as technologically sound as anybody in the secular world doing a similar kind of service,” he said of the Foundation’s operations.
“And we want to be as academically sound as anybody in the secular world from the investment management standpoint.”
Bledsoe said the Foundation has made strides in technology with new computers, the creation of a Web site at www.tbfa.org and Internet connections.
