KAMPALA, Uganda — Two Christian evangelists were attacked and critically injured for proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ in a public setting during the Muslim observance of Ramadan.
Angry Muslims beat and stabbed Ephraim Idube, 32, and Tefiiro Mwanani, 40, in Uganda’s Iganga town March 14, one of the evangelists told Morning Star News.

The two had set up an outdoor preaching area and “proclaimed the gospel, saying Christ is the Son of God, that He alone will lead people to heaven and that Muhammad was merely a prophet from nowhere,”Mwanani said.
Muslims angered by the gospel message and the statement about Muhammad attacked the two men. One assailant used a long Somali sword taken from a nearby butcher shop to cut the evangelists, Mwanani said.
Critical condition
Christians and others rescued Idube and Mwanani and took them to Iganga Hospital. Both men were considered to be in critical condition from their deep wounds, states Morning Star.
Approximately 12% of Uganda’s population is Muslim. Uganda’s constitution and laws allow for freedom of religion, including converting from one faith to another. However, Christian churches increasingly have received threats of violence, and some Christian converts have been attacked, killed or excommunicated by Muslim family members, the World Atlas reports.
