JOS, Nigeria — Two pastors were hacked to death with machetes by Muslims in separate incidents that claimed the lives of more than 50 Christians, according to Morning Star News.
In Kano state, the Rev. Yohanna Shuaibu died Sept. 23, after a Muslim mob attacked him, burned his house, church and school. Shuaibu’s wife, children and students escaped. The attack may have been retaliation for a Christian man killing his Muslim sister-in-law during an argument. Shuaibu may have been targeted because many Muslims became Christians through his ministry, the report states.
Six have been arrested in the slayings of Shuaibu and the woman.
In Kaduna state on Sept. 11, the Rev. Silas Yakubu Ali died after Muslim Fulani herdsmen and Muslim collaborators shot and attacked him, states Morning Star. Twelve others were killed the next day. Fulani killed more than 50 Christians in 14 communities in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area in August and September. Fifteen thousand people were displaced.
Nigeria is No. 9 on Open Doors’ 2021 World Watch List of places most difficult to be a Christian.
