Two receive Christ at Painter church’s car show

Liberty Baptist Church, Painter, in DeKalb Baptist Association recently held its first communitywide car show. According to Pastor Roger White, between 200 and 300 people attended.
He said the event was a great way to get to know the people who came and to see the efforts the owners had put into restoring old vehicles and caring for newer ones.

“We had a super turnout with 58 cars and trucks, 17 motorcycles and one tractor,” White said. “We had everything from a 1921 Model T roadster to a 2007 Chrysler with a Hemi (engine).”
Special guests for the show were evangelism director Sammy Gilbreath and his team from the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions.

The church’s senior adult group, the Homesteaders, donated and served hotdogs, ice cream and finger foods. Fresh-squeezed lemonade, made with lemons donated by a local grocery store, was also served. T-shirts were given out while they lasted. Trophies were awarded for the top cars in Antique, Street Rod, Muscle Car, New Car, Motorcycle and Vehicle of Interest categories. A final award was given for Pastor’s Choice.

But the highlight of the day came when two people prayed to receive Christ there in the parking lot.
“(The event) was such a success with the people of the church and the community that there have already been requests to make it a yearly event,” White said. “Everyone had a great day, and the fellowship was tremendous. God really blessed us with lots of new friends and two new members in the family of God.”
