In the college of arts and science, there is a strong emphasis on classical texts throughout composition, literature, philosophy and political science with a focus on analytical and creative thinking skills. Students in the sciences receive hands-on experience with local environmental firms, on research vessels in Mobile Bay, and on UM’s own 800-acre campus.

In the school of business, students have opportunities in internships with companies such as CNN, and have opportunities to receive hands-on experience doing real-world research.

In the school of education, 98 percent of graduates who want a job in education are able to teach in the public sector, and UM’s Teacher’s Education program earned an “A” on the state report card.

In the Center for Performing Arts, music and theater majors perform before a crowd of more than 3,300 in the annual StarLight music festival.

In the athletic training education program, students receive hands-on experience with professional sports teams and with high school athletic programs.

In the school of leadership development, adult students earn their college degrees while holding leadership roles in businesses throughout the community.

In the school of religion, participants in the University Missions program gain academic credit for foreign mission service.

In the school of nursing, students work side by side with area health care professionals to deliver services to patients in local hospitals and healthcare facilities.

In the worship leadership degree program, students gain solid theological training from UM religion professors and hands-on worship leadership skills from the Integrity Worship Institute.      (UM)
