University of Mobile (UM) faculty and staff received special recognition for contributions to their professions during the annual faculty and staff luncheon. UM President Mark Foley presented the awards as well as a special gift of historic photographs of the university to founding President and current Chancellor William K. Weaver Jr.
Thomas Bevill received the William A. Megginson Teaching Award.
Douglas Mitchell received the Mitford Ray Megginson Research Award.
Cindy Godwin received the Emma Frances Megginson Service Award.
Foley announced the following promotions: Mitchell to associate professor of English, Lonnie Burnett to professor of history, Patrick Jacobs to associate professor of music and Richard McElhaney to associate professor of nursing.
Professor medallions, which are worn during graduation ceremonies, were presented to Burnett, Patricia Cooper and Robert Doan.
Service awards were presented in recognition of years of service to the university:

30 years — Billy Hinson
20 years — Mike Jacobs, Kim Leousis, Dianne Murphree, Dred Sharp and Cecil Taylor
15 years — Diane Black, Jeff Calametti, Kathy Dunning, Pat Edmonds, Svetlana Khokhlova, Joe West and Dale Younce
10 years — Dennis Blakely, Brian Boyle, Kim Gully, Joe Niland, Lori Outlaw and Duane Plash
5 years — Mike Berry, Sharon Brazel, Randy Davis, Hali Givens, Betty Greene, Patrick Jacobs, Metra Larkin, Latanya McGadney, John Myrick, Jon Seymour, Pat Waites, Deborah Ward and Lindy White
