The Helene Fuld Health Trust of New York has awarded a $70,000 grant to the University of Mobile (UM) to help registered nurses earn their bachelor’s degree through the one-year RN-to-BSN program.
Over a two-year period, the grant will fund seven full scholarships for registered nurses who attend UM full time while earning a bachelor of science in nursing.
Mike Blaylock, vice president for institutional advancement at UM, said the university joined the ranks of other award recipients such as the University of California, Los Angeles; the University of Texas, Houston Health Science Center; and the University of Illinois at Chicago.
“The Helene Fuld Health Trust is the nation’s largest private fund devoted exclusively to nursing students and education,” Blaylock said.
Rosemary Adams, dean of the School of Nursing, said UM’s program helps full time RN-to-BSN students graduate within one year by not requiring them to repeat unnecessary courses.
“This saves both time and tuition,” she said. To compete for Fuld Trust scholarships, RNs must apply for admission and financial aid at UM by March 1.
