Innovative worship band Exit 13 has just released its new album, “From the Dust,” through the University of Mobile’s (UMobile) 8Eighty Records label.
Exit 13 is a worship band out of UMobile’s School of Worship Leadership. The band’s focus is to lead worship for youth events, churches, camps and civic events.
Recorded at UMobile, “this album creates a unique listening experience as the band collectively created new, exciting arrangements from traditional hymns, contemporary worship songs and Exit 13 originals,” said Jeff Quimby, 8Eighty Records general manager and director of A&R (artist & repertoire).
‘Variety of styles’
He said the group’s sound will appeal to fans of Gungor, All Sons & Daughters, Civil Wars, Johnnyswim and Phil Wickham.
“The group’s newest album includes a variety of styles, allowing the band to create their own exclusive sound,” Quimby said. These sounds, he said, include a mix of soulful blues, alternative rock, singer/songwriter and folk.
In a recent interview the band said their goal is to capture young people’s hearts and bring attention to the gospel by creating music that is different than other commercial contemporary worship heard on today’s Christian radio, according to Quimby.
“Their hope is that the music will capture interest as the message of Jesus Christ seeps through,” he said. “Their talent and love for Christ is so evident in their music and this music is something you will not want to pass up.”
Exit 13 gets its name from the I-65 exit that leads to the UMobile campus in north Mobile County. Band members are UMobile students E. Cooper Bascom, vocals/acoustic and electric guitar; Kayla Litton, vocals/cello; Austin Taylor, electric guitar; Dylan Miller, bass; Christian Harris, keys; and Christian Springer, drums.
8Eighty Records is part of the UMobile Center for Performing Arts/School of Music and School of Worship Leadership. Along with its music publishing arm, 8Eighty Records includes the Fisher-Brewer recording studio that provides a hands-on learning laboratory for university students to record and produce CDs in the same type of professional environment they will encounter in their music careers.
