Union Grove No. 1 Missionary Baptist Church, Albertville, celebrated its 125th anniversary Dec. 16.
Former pastor Mike Springfield was the guest speaker for the service. Jo Ellen Kash presented “Celebrating the Past — Committed to the Future,” an overview of the church’s history. The old church bell was rung near the end of the presentation.
Johnie Sentell, from the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission, presented the church with a certificate.
The church displayed a large photo collection of events throughout the years. There also was a special display of church building photos from the 1950s to the current building’s dedication in 2007. A cake featuring the building photos was served at the luncheon.
“The celebration was great. Around 200 people attended,” Kash said.
The church recognized former pastors, past and present members, deacons, those involved in the music program and the church’s oldest member, Rhunell Amason. Dortheen Davis was recognized for holding the longest membership at the church at 74 years. Richard Thomas, the cemetary custodian for 31 years was also recognized. Whitt Hibbs is pastor.
