University of Mobile awarding $300,000 in scholarships to M-Fuge campers

Christopher Matthews of Albany, Ga., a senior at Sherwood Christian Academy, was awarded a $20,000 scholarship by the University of Mobile (UM). Matthews recently spent a week at the college with members of Albany’s Sherwood Baptist Church as participants in M-Fuge, a summer camp sponsored by the Southern Baptist Convention.

Each summer M-Fuge campers, grades 7 through college, travel to 10 different sites across the nation and six sites internationally. Campers go out into the community and volunteer in construction, painting, yard work, Vacation Bible School, social ministries and more.

During the campers’ week at UM, every high school student who shows interest in the university is asked to fill out an information card. Those campers are automatically awarded an M-Fuge certificate redeemable for a $500 scholarship to attend UM. At the end of M-Fuge, a name is drawn, and one student goes home with a $20,000 scholarship offer- $5,000 renewable each year. UM will award more than $300,000 in scholarships.
