University of Mobile makes tuition changes for 2009–10

The University of Mobile (UM) announced changes in tuition and fees for the 2009–10 academic year, including a net 6.07 percent increase in undergraduate tuition and fees, decreases in graduate tuition and a slight increase in adult programs tuition.

Undergraduate tuition will increase from $6,750 per semester to $7,250 per semester, or from $13,500 per year to $14,500 per year, for full-time students. The student activity fee, which is required for all students, will decrease from $175 per semester to $100 per semester.

Graduate tuition will decrease from $420 per credit hour to $390 per credit hour. The Center for Adult Programs tuition will increase from $385 per credit hour to $398 per credit hour. Miscellaneous fees for a variety of classes and programs will increase in varying amounts.

UM President Mark Foley noted that UM’s tuition remains below the average undergraduate tuition of $17,483 for Alabama independent colleges of similar type and culture and significantly below the national average of $18,031 for independent colleges.

He said the university has increased scholarship aid to students to more than $7.6 million in the 2009–10 budget.

“The University of Mobile remains an excellent value for Christian higher education, and we continue to be carefully managed and fiscally conservative.

“We have carefully adjusted our pricing, increasing in some areas and decreasing in others, to provide quality academic programs at a very reasonable price,” Foley said. (UM)
