University of Mobile Presents ‘Brush Up Your Shakespeare’

University of Mobile’s Musical Theatre and Opera Scenes Program will present “Brush Up Your Shakespeare” on April 18 in Weaver Auditorium on campus.

The night will include songs and soliloquys from popular musicals, plays and operas, including: Something Rotten, West Side Story, Falstaff and Romeo & Juliet.

The show is directed by Patrick Jacobs, director of opera and professor of music and voice at UM. Jacob says, “Brush Up Your Shakespeare will have something for everyone, from Verdi to Berntein and Cole Porter. We will present scenes that show how the works of Shakespeare have inspired others to create some of the most powerful and beautiful music drama ever made. There are also a wide variety of scenes from slapstick comedy to heart-wrenching tragedy. It will truly be a night to remember.”
