Karen Dennis, assistant professor of education at University of Mobile, has had an article published in “Dimensions of Early Childhood,” a journal of the Southern Early Childhood Association (SECA).
Dennis is the reading specialist and co-director of the Center for Collaborative Teaching and Learning at the University of Mobile and has 21 years of experience as an elementary classroom teacher and reading coach.
Her article, titled “Innovative Strategies for Joyful Learning in a Higher Education Early Childhood Education Program,” explains how the School of Education at UM redesigned a course to focus on teaching with an integrated approach based on Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles.
“The new course creates a venue for implementing UDL strategies in fun, innovative ways while keeping with research-based, pedagogical standards,” Dennis said.
“Overall, this course offered at University of Mobile has shown promise in delivering a program that prepares teacher candidates to deliver a well-rounded education while sharing the joy of teaching and learning,” said Dennis.
According to SECA, “Dimensions of Early Childhood” is a nationally recognized peer-reviewed journal. It includes articles and information of interest to early childhood professionals and translates “research into practice,” making the latest research and early childhood data accessible to teachers and persons working in early childhood classrooms.
