Christian Oldies: HeavenBound
Joshua Records
This compilation of covers of ’50s and ’60s radio hits, reworked and recorded with Christian lyrics, is the debut release from Joshua Records, a new label mostly oriented around the West Coast’s Hispanic Christian music scene attempting to fuse “Hispanic roots with Soul.” The groups and artists featured — Little Willie G., Rudy Benavidez, Priscilla Acuna and others — know their doo-wop, old R&B, gospel, blues and soul and cover acts like The Isley Brothers, Little Anthony and The Imperials, The Impressions and B.B. King, just to name a few. It’s an interesting idea and an easy listen.
