Songs From the Voice
Thomas Nelson
The people behind The Voice scripture project — a series of books and CDs advertised as a way to rediscover the story of the Bible — are operating under the assumption that fresh language is required to keep the Bible relevant for attention-deficient 20-somethings.
The concept is nothing new. The results, however, are.
The two volumes of The Voice scripture project released to date — “Please Don’t Make Us Sing This Song” (songs drawn from Psalms) and “Son of the Most High” (songs drawn from the Scriptures incorporated into Handel’s “Messiah”) — possess a sincere quality.
The list of artists behind both volumes of original songs reads like a roll call of Christian coffee house all-stars: Robbie Seay Band, Matt Wertz and Maeve and members of Audio Adrenaline, Caedmon’s Call and Waterdeep and many more.
Both albums’ styles range from organic folk to innovative pop, all the while maintaining a sound as cohesive as the purpose of those who made it.
