The Longing, Ronnie Freeman, Tenth Avenue North, Josh Fox, Alli Rogers, Spur58, Axiom, Vapor, Heather Powers, Go Deep, Among Thorns and Christopher Williams are the 12 different groups and solo artists represented here, as is a blossoming new age of Christian music.

The key to the emerging vitality of young Christian music is the unabashed resurgence of the piano, especially in the rock realm.

In this project, it is most detectable in Spur58’s hit “The Wonderful.”

While most of the disc is dominated by worshipful male power ballads, there are some softer female moments.
There is an almost bluesy Nora Jones-quality to Powers’ intimate “Undone,” while Rogers’ “Tanzania” invokes early Alanis Morissette.

Though its name somewhat belies the fairly relaxed pace of most of its songs, “Velocity” will likely fast become a favorite.
