Family Status: Widowed after 48 years of marriage to Alfred; seven children, Dale, Carol, Damon, Judy, Martha, Johnny and Donnie; about 24 grandchildren; about 35 great-grandchildren
Aubrey Mae Vickers joined Oak Chapel Baptist in 1956 and has been church clerk for nearly 43 years. Through the years, she has held various positions including Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher and ministry committee leader. At 81 years old, she sings in the choir and leads the church prayer chain when members or others have prayer requests. Vickers has also been an associational delegate for the church for many years.
Q: What led you to become involved in church work?
A: I was a Christian, and I wanted to serve the Lord. I think my calling is serving others.
Q: Why have you continuedthrough the years?
A: Because I love the Lord, and it’s through His grace that I’m able to do it. He’s been so good to me.
Q: What do these ministries demand?
A: Strength and the desire to serve the Lord. It’s a lot of stuff to keep up with.
Q: What do you get from theseministries?
A: The joy of serving the Lord and helping other people. I believe in putting other people before myself.
Q: How do you see yourself involved in this in the future?
A: I hope and pray as long as the Lord lets me live, I’ll have strength to do it.
Q: What difference will this work make for you in the future?
A: I’m not doing it for glory of myself. I’m doing it because I love the Lord. I expect a home in heaven when I die.
