VictoryLand restraining order dropped

Macon County Circuit Court Judge Tom Young dropped a temporary restraining order against Gov. Bob Riley’s Task Force on Illegal Gambling from raiding VictoryLand on Sept. 8.

This action came after the Alabama Supreme Court once again communicated that the task force could legally raid VictoryLand when it rejected a request by Macon County officials to rehear the court’s July 30 ruling that allowed the task force to operate in its county on Sept. 3.

Attornies for VictoryLand have said they do not expect a raid because VictoryLand has not operated electronic bingo since Aug. 8, and its 6,000 machines are walled off from public view.

Although no action had been taken by the task force as of press time, task force commander John Tyson said he is watching the situation closely and will “enforce the law” when necessary.  (TAB)
