ABUJA, Nigeria — Recent videos show two abducted clergymen — one a captive for the past 16 months — pleading for ransom to be paid to save their lives.
A 15-second video shows Paul Musa kneeling near a Boko Haram flag while a masked man points a weapon at him. The news services Christian Daily International and Morning Star News report that in the video, Musa says the captors will kill him and his wife if ransom is not paid within a week. The video was released in late June.
The jihadist group Boko Haram reportedly has demanded between $39,180 and $130,221 for the release of Musa, who is pastor of Church of Christ in Nations in Gamboru Ngala in Borno state, and his wife. The couple were kidnapped in March 2023.
Another abduction case
In another abduction case, Micah Suleiman, a Catholic priest, is seen in a 51-second video pleading for ransom to be paid to save his life. The news services say assailants kidnapped Suleiman on June 22 from St. Raymond Catholic Church property in Gusau in Zamfara state.
Nigeria is No. 6 on Open Doors’ 2024 World Watch List of places most difficult to be a Christian. Nigeria has led the world in the number of Christians killed for their faith or kidnapped.
