The Vienne Choir Boys, an Austrian touring group, performed at Judson College in Marion Jan. 28. Conductor Lucio Golino directed and pianist Klaus-Dieter Jung accompanied. The group of 24 boys, ages 10 to 14, attend the institution Wiener Hofmusikkapelle.
The choir’s repertoire included Gregorian chant, Latin compositions with scriptural origins, an operetta, waltzes and Austrian folk music. Two pieces by Mozart, who composed for the school at one time, were sung. Lee Turner’s arrangement of “Amazing Grace” concluded the program.
“These children are world-class singers,” said Roger Walworth, chair of Judson’s fine arts division. “They shape the musical world for the next generation.” They aren’t always focused upon music, however, explained Walworth. “One of the standout things was, regardless of nationality, they’re still boys. One example would be, while they were getting dressed, one of the boys tied the other boy’s coat sleeves in a knot!”
