Wall Street executive named COO of Bible society

NEW YORK — Richard B. Stewart Jr. is the new executive vice president and chief operating officer of American Bible Society.

Stewart was a former vice chairman of Lehman Brothers and the chief financial officer at Merrill Lynch. 

The American Bible Society was founded in 1816 with a commitment to “sharing God’s Word with the world.”

The mission statement of the Bible society “is to make the Bible available to every person in a language and format each can understand and afford, so all people may experience its life-changing message.”

The Bible society works in some 200 countries and is a founder of United Bible Societies, a global fellowship of 141 Bible societies.
